Tree of Andry
French physician, Nicholas Andry, introduced the world to the idea of Orthopaedics and his corresponding illustration of a tree tied to a stake to support and guide it's growth. This was in 1741. It has remained the symbol of Orthopedic surgeons to this day. I discovered it while creating a "Tree of Andry" brooch as a retirement gift for an Orthopedic surgeon. I loved the original illustration and the innovative way he thought about the human body. Indeed, I owe my own continued ability to make jewelry to an awesome Ortho surgeon, hence, I was inspired to create my "Tree of Andry" necklace.

I hand carved the original wax model and cast it in SCS certified sterling silver. To accent the oxidized sterling of the tree I twisted either 18K yellow or 14K rose gold wire into a tiny "rope" to tie it to the stake with. I created a textured frame to contrast the tree. It can be ordered as a pendant on a rounded box chain or as a necklace center with a textured cable chain.

I would be happy to customize this pendant or neckpiece. Possibilities include: adding gold leaves, casting in different metals including gold and platinum, adding gemstones or initials.
